Religious painter, born in Fuente de Cantos, Spain. He spent most of his life at Seville, where his best-known work, an altarpiece, is to be found. Apart from a few portraits and still-life studies, his main subjects were monastic and historical, and he came to be called "the Spanish Caravaggio".
